Choosing the Right Folding Power Wheelchair
Weight Considerations
Total weight is crucial for travel. The lightest folding electric wheelchairs weigh 35-50 lbs. Consider who will be lifting the chair—if you'll be lifting it yourself, lighter is better. Some models let you remove the battery separately to reduce lifting weight.
Folded Dimensions
Measure your car trunk and check the folded dimensions. Most folding power chairs compact to roughly 24" x 24" x 12", fitting in standard sedan trunks. If flying frequently, verify the folded size meets airline requirements.
Range and Battery Life
Travel power chairs typically offer 10-18 miles per charge. Consider your daily needs—if you'll be exploring all day, look for longer range or carry a spare battery. Most chairs fully charge in 4-8 hours.
